The Steamboat Springs Sailors traveled to Harrison for the first game of the 2018 season. Harrison sent captain Justin Maynes to the hill to start the season. The Panthers held the Sailors to only one run in the first inning. Catcher Tim Hoagland threw out a runner for the third out of the inning. Maynes and Hoagland each had a hit in the first inning but the Panthers couldn’t get on the board. The Sailors went three up and three down in the second inning as second baseman Xavier Casarez took part in two of the three putouts. The Panthers also went down in in order in the bottom of the second. The Sailors were able to put three runs on the board in the 3rd. The Panthers were able to load the bases in the bottom of the third when Jony Gonzalez, Levi Diaz, and Tim Hoagland all reached base. However, they were unable to capitalize. Sophmore Xavier Casarez came in for his first pitching appearance in the fourth inning. The defense looked shaky, committing 4 errors in the inning that allowed 4 runs to score. Sailor pitcher Jack Boyle struck out the side in the bottom of the fourth. Tim Hoagland came on to pitch the 5th and gave up one run while striking out one before the game was called due to darkness.
