Panthers News · Panthers Great Season Comes to End

The Harrison Panthers and Longmont Trojans played a basketball game last Saturday that many are calling the most exciting game of the 2018-19 basketball season. The Panthers who are not well know in the Northern part of the state had the fans in attendance at times speechless with their hustle, composure and ability to play the game. Yet,in the end the Panthers fell to the Trojans 64-63 in overtime.

The Panthers that finished the season 21-5 had a balanced attack. Offensively Harrison shot 46% from the field and only committed 9 turnovers. Donta Dawson had a great game. He shot 11 0f 20 for 25 points while having 5 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Aumiere Shedrick had a game high 14 rebounds while scoring 11 points. Orlando Westbrook-Sanchez finished with 13 points shooting 3 or 5 from the 3 point line. Taylor Hofmann led the team in assists with 7 and also pulled down 9 rebounds. Also Xaiver Sterling made his presence know by scoring 8 points and having 7 rebounds.

The Panthers played an excellent game on defense holding Longmont under their season scoring average and 14% under their season field goal average. Harrison won the rebounding battle 42-35 and also had the Trojans turn the ball over 11 times. Where the game changed was in free throw shooting. The Panthers were only able to get to the line 5 times going 2 of 5 while Longmont shot 15 of 27. This discrepancy did have an impact on the final outcome of the game.

Thank you to these young men for such a fun season. It was exciting to see you grow as individuals and as a team. You should be proud of your accomplishments and we can only look forward to what next season has in store for you. There is no doubt that you will be a preseason pick to be in the final four.
