Panthers News · Basketball Wins Headed to Sweet 16


The boys basketball team defeated Alameda on Saturday, February 23 at Butch Thorpe Gymnasium 55 -52. The Panthers used a tenacious full court press that only allowed Alameda 13 points in the first half. Alameda used half time to adjust and had the game tied with two minutes left in the fourth quarter. Harrison on their heels never faltered and stopped Alameda on the final play of the game.

Down the final stretch the Panthers had big plays by several players. Donta Dawson had several key rebounds and baskets. Aumiere Shedrick who had 13 rebounds for the game pulled down defensive rebounds late in the game taking away any second chance scoring opportunities for Alameda. Jaylean Franck hit 1 of 2 free throws with 13 seconds remaining to give the Panthers a three point lead.

The Panther were led in scoring by Dawson (19 pts.), Shedrick (10 pts.), Wetrbrook-Sanchez & Hofmann with 8pts. each and Tayzhean Archuleta with 7 points. However, the Panthers defense was the difference allowing Alameda only 38 totals shot attempts while turning the Pirates over 14 times.

The Panthers are back in action in the Sweet 16 on Wednesday, February 27 at Harrison High School with a 7PM game time. The Panthers opponent is Golden High School from the Jeffco league who upset #7 seed Glenwood Springs.
