Harrison High School
Mesa Ridge High School
While the Panthers put up a fight against the Mesa Ridge Grizzlies, it was not enough to the win. Harrison High School played well, passing a season high of 2.06 on serve receive, earning 75 digs, and 5 blocks; however they struggled offensively at the net. The Panthers failed to make the necessary adjustments to avoid and challenge Mesa Ridge’s tough blocks and determined defense. Harrison hit positively as a team, but it was insufficient since they needed to earn more points as a team, instead of only relying on the Grizzlies’ errors. Furthermore, although the Panthers served with 94% consistency, they only earned 7 aces, much lower than their other games this season. The Panthers are excited to take a lesson about mental toughness away from this loss, and continue to work on honing their game at the net.
Junior Vanessa Trujillo carried the Panthers across all skills against the Grizzlies earning Player of the Match. Not only did Trujillo set well, she also served in 100% of her serves, gaining two aces along the way. She also hit a .158 from the right side in addition to defensively delivering a block and 12 digs. Similarly, she passed a team high of a 2.40. Her consistency across the court and her calm love of the game helped bring Harrison back into the match winning the third set. Her teammate sophomore Diamond Moore Heath also contributed a great game, also serving 100%, hitting a .136, passing a 2.18, and digging 15 balls from left back.
